National Director

Function:
Represent the AWSA Western Region skiers at the Western Regional Council and National Board level.

Authority:
Communicate with skiers, board members, council members, and national level USAWS and AWSA officials.  Attend Western Regional and National Board meetings.  Vote on issues presented at Regional Council meetings and National Board meetings on behalf of, and in the best interest of, the members of the Western Region.  All actions and voting must adhere to the AWSA and USAWS bylaws.

Responsibility:

  1. Attend and participate in all Western Regional Council meetings and other meetings designated by the Executive Vice President. Give and receive input relevant to AWSA Western Region.  Vote on Regional and National issues taking into account your understanding of the wishes and best interest of the skiers of the Western Region.
  2. Attend and participate in all AWSA National Board meetings. Present recommendations to the National Board based on input and direction of the Western Regional Council.  Vote based on Western region input when available; otherwise vote based on your judgment of the best interest of the skiers of the Western Region.
  3. Keep up with current events, rules, and situations as dispatched by the AWSA President, the Western Region EVP, Chairman of the AWSA Board, or any authorized representative.
  4. Work with EVP on areas of special interest.

Reports:
Respond to EVP requests for input.  File reports as may be requested by the Western Region EVP.

Accountability:
Pass along information the EVP, other Directors, and others on the Western Regional council or committees need to do their jobs.  Talk with skiers and officials throughout the Western Region to determine and discuss issues and directions for waterskiing.

Area Council Person

 Function:
Represent the water skiers of your council area on the Western Regional council in maintaining, developing, and improving competitive water skiing.

Authority:
Contact and talk with other council members, pertinent committee members, skiers of your area and throughout the Western Region, and vote on Regional Council matters.  Organize or approve the method for tournament scheduling in your area.  Recommend approval or rejection of sanction requests.  All actions must conform to the AWSA and USAWS Bylaws.

Responsibilities:

  1. Mid-winter and summer meetings
    Attendance to represent your skiers is extremely important. If unable to attend, please allow enough time to select a substitute to be sure the skiers in your Area have a voice.Please read and digest all published committee reports prior meetings to help finish on time.
  2. Tournament sanctioning
    Attend all tournament-scheduling meetings in your Council Area to help facilitate better tournament planning, innovation, and scheduling. (This includes federations, ski clubs or any other manner unique to your Council Area).  Diplomatically resolve any scheduling conflicts keeping the good of the sport in mind.Be sure all your Area tournament sponsors use the electronic sanctioning before the deadline listed by the Regional Council.Review the sanction applications, verify listed officials are properly rated, proofread for typographical errors or unclear information, and recommend approval or rejection.
  3. Area Development
    Oversee activities to coordinate Junior development and officials’ development in your council area.
  4. General
    Always be an ambassador for the sport. Look for ways to improve the competition, maintain the fun and help the sport grow.  When bringing an issue forward, try to bring a solution as well.  Keep in mind that this is almost entirely a volunteer sport and people have various levels of commitment.

Reporting:
Report as requested by the EVP.  Notify the EVP immediately of any related potential problems, rules violations,

Accountability:
Give skiers of your area information they need to effectively manage, participate in, and grow the sport.  Communicate effectively to gather and bring ideas and preferences of the skiers to the council.  Keep abreast of current developments of AWSA.

 

National Committee Members

Function:
Represent the Western Regional council and skiers in maintaining, developing, and improving competitive water skiing through active participation on the committee assigned.

Authority:
Contact and talk with other committee members, skiers of any region, vote on committee matters.  All actions must conform to the AWSA and USAWS Bylaws.

Responsibilities:

  1. Participate in committee meetings.  Go to the meetings, be prepared and knowledgeable, express the needs and ideas of the skiers of this region related to subjects at hand.
  2. Participate in any requested committee communication.  Respond to committee communications appropriately and timely.
  3. Act as a resource.  Discuss committee direction and information as needed with the skiers, officials, and clubs of the Western Region.
  4. Carry out assignments as given by the committee chair.
  5. Give the committee pertinent requests from the Council, skiers, officials, and clubs of the Western Region.

Reporting:
For each mid-winter and summer Regional Council meeting, prepare a written report for the EVP and Council members.  Give a summary of committee activity at Regional Council meetings and answer questions expressed at that meeting.

Accountability:
Tell the EVP and any affected council members when your committee has taken an action that may have a significant effect on them.

If you are the chair of the committee, oversee the committee to carry out assignments from the President of AWSA.

 

Regional Junior Development Coordinator

Function:
Promote and coordinate a program for Western Region junior skiers to become involved and more proficient at 3-event water skiing.

Authority:
All actions must conform to the AWSA and USAWS Bylaws.   Coordinate the scheduling of clinics.  Raise funds through contacts with sponsors.  Recommend allocation of funds for camps.  Apply for clinic sanctions.  Make contacts to recruit attendees.  Make recommendations to Western Region for directions for the program.  Express Western Region skier needs to National level Junior Development Coordinator.

Responsibilities:

  1. Junior Development Camps.  Organize and promote several camps per year.  Attain or help attain sites, coaching, and supervision for the camps.  Camps need to provide for a varying level of skiing ability.  Each camp will need the appropriate level of coaching, supervision, safety, time and amenities.
  2. Manage funding.  Schedule the use of moneys available to help fund the camps throughout the year.  Use designated junior development funds.  Expenditures to accounted for and disbursed according in accord with the bylaws and EVP of the Western Region.
  3. Attain funding.  Prepare a funding statement for the Western Regional Council mid-winter meeting each year to show funding use and need.  Contact or encourage contact of outside sources for funding.
  4. Oversee and direct any committee appointed by the Western Region EVP to work with the Junior Development Program.  Coordinate with the various Western Region Council Area Junior Development programs.

Reporting:
For each mid-winter and summer Regional Council meeting, prepare a written report for the EVP and Council members.  Give a summary of committee activity at Regional Council meetings and answer questions expressed at that meeting.  The report needs to include expenditures, incomes, camps operated, attendance, and any problems.

Accountability:
Let anyone affected know about scheduling or finance problems.  Keep the EVP informed of any problems in scheduling, finance, or resources as they occur.

 

NSL National Committee Member
And
Regional NSL Coordinator

Function:
Represent the Western Regional council and skiers in maintaining, developing, and improving competitive water skiing through active participation on the National Ski League committee and coordination and development of NSL in the Western Region.

Authority:
Contact and talk with other committee members, Western Region Area council representatives, skiers of any region, vote on committee matters.  All actions must conform to the AWSA and USAWS Bylaws.

Responsibilities:

  1. Participate in committee meetings.  Go to the meetings, be prepared and knowledgeable, express the needs and ideas of the skiers of this region related to subjects at hand.
  2. Participate in any requested committee communication.  Respond to committee communications appropriately and timely.
  3. Act as a resource.  Discuss committee direction and information as needed with the skiers, officials, and clubs of the Western Region.
  4. Carry out assignments as given by the committee chair.
  5. Give the committee pertinent requests from the Council, skiers, officials, and clubs of the Western Region.
  6. Develop contacts and resources to refine and promote NSL in all council areas of the Western Region.

Regional Officials Development

  1. Coordination of testing for upgrades.

    Primary contact person for area council reps and skiers wanting to test for up grade.   Keep track of who is giving tests and facilitate getting people tested in a timely manner; availability and responsiveness are extremely important.

  2. Keep track of officials pending loss of rating.
  3. Ongoing updates for officials about problems, solutions, new rules.
  4. Previews and recaps of clinics.

    Touch bases with those who are planning clinics to make sure they are have most current information, methods, and priorities.  Get feedback from them after the clinics to see what curve balls came up and what suggestions they have for other clinics.

  5. Find and repair weak spots.
    For example:  I think we have a huge supply of slalom judges, but relatively few good trick judges.  Boat judging jump can get quite confusing in the heat of battle and few people have a lot of time in the boat for jump.  Single event judges could be encouraged to expand.

 

National Committee Members — RULES COMMITTEE

Function:
Represent the Western Regional council and skiers in maintaining, developing, and improving competitive water skiing through active participation on Rules Committee.

Authority:
Contact and talk with other committee members, skiers of any region, and vote on committee matters.  All actions must conform to the AWSA and USAWS Bylaws.

Responsibilities:

  1. Participate in committee meetings.  Go to the meetings, be prepared and knowledgeable, express the needs and ideas of the skiers of this region related to rules.
  2. Participate in any requested committee communication.  Research rule exception requests and give input promptly.  Respond to other committee communications appropriately and timely.
  3. Act as a resource.  Discuss committee direction and information as needed with the skiers, officials, and clubs of the Western Region.
  4. Carry out assignments, such as “proof reading”, as given by the committee chair.
  5. Give the committee pertinent requests from the Council, skiers, officials, and clubs of the Western Region.

Function:

Contact and talk with other committee members, skiers of any region, experts knowledgeable in safety measures, and vote on committee matters.  All actions must conform to the AWSA and USAWS Bylaws.

Responsibilities:

  1. Participate in committee meetings.  Go to any scheduled meetings; be prepared and knowledgeable, express the needs and ideas of the skiers of this region related to safety.
  2. Participate in any requested committee communication.  Respond to committee communications appropriately and timely.
  3. Act as a resource.  Discuss committee direction and information as needed with the skiers, officials, and clubs of the Western Region.
  4. Carry out assignments as given by the committee chair.
  5. Give the committee pertinent requests from the Council, skiers, officials, and clubs of the Western Region.
