Every year since 1975 the Western Region has presented the Award of Merit, (previously known as the Rich Slingerland Award of Merit), to a member (or members) who epitomize friendship, dedication, and integrity. This is one of the Western Region’s most prestigious honors. It was established and is maintained for deserving persons who may otherwise go unnoticed in the course of their service. All Western Region members are welcome and encouraged to submit nominations for this award to their councilperson, or to Larry Laughlin (skilaughlin@gmail.com), prior to the Regional Tournament. Past recipients are listed on page 99 of this year’s guide and they constitute the selection committee for this award.
AWSA Seeks Volunteer Computer Programmers The American Water Ski Association is currently seeking volunteer programmers to help maintain its tournament scores and rankings lists. The behind-the-scenes database platform is Microsoft SQL Server 2008. Microsoft SQL, Server SQL and ASP.net would be a key skill needed. The rankings, online registration system, post-tournament reporting, and associated applications are done in Classic ASP (Active Server Pages), which is a variant of the VB-Script language created by Microsoft for Web Service Applications designed to run under the Windows IIS platform. If you have these skills and are willing to help maintain these systems, as well some very exciting ideas in the works to propel our sport to the next level, please contact AWSA President Jeff Surdej at j_surdej@yahoo.com
